The Department of Sustainable agriculture and natural resources management is the backbone of our programming within TSURO since its founding in the early 2000s. It is inspired by the urgent need to strike a balance between proper stewardship of our natural resources and our environment with the realization of food and nutrition security plus livelihood wins for the communities. This has been achieved through supporting and promoting natural farming methods, collectively termed agro-ecological practices, demonstrating and supporting farmer-led seed systems, supporting climate change and watershed management initiatives, piloting the innovative Holistic Land and Livestock Management (HLLM) concept and the mapping and rehabilitation of ecologically sensitive areas within the district.
Several innovations/community development models have been piloted and tested over time which includes among others, facilitating an arrangement between ZimParks and surrounding communities to run joint apiculture projects within the Parks area, the introduction of fish farming in ponds at household level and the establishment of community based Climate change action groups (CCAGs) to drive climate change adaptation efforts at the community level.
