Public Environmental Health

The departmentโ€™s mandate is to promote the health and well-being of communities through interventions in the areas of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, (WASH), Food Safety, Nutrition, Mental Health (MH), HIV/AIDS, Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV), Adolescent/Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR and ASHRH) as well as Gender and Protection issues. Programs implementation is through partnerships and collaboration with different partners and government ministries including the lead ministry, Ministry of Health and Child Care, National AIDS Council, Department of Social Development, RIDA, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Victim Friendly Unit and Ministry of Women Affairs.

The departmentโ€™s main focus is health promotion, prevention of key health threats and forming linkages for access to services. It seeks to improve provision of health care services through capacity building for both health care practitioners and community based cadres. Community health clubs are used as the main vehicle for social and behaviour change.ย  Post cyclone the organization has helped with strengthening and recovery of health institutions through renovations and donations of medical equipment to some health facilities as well as during Covid-19. It has also been responsive to emerging and re-emerging health needs of the communities as it was able to pioneer community based mental health services and during outbreaks and disasters.
