Weltfriedensdienst Project update: 💧 𝐅r𝐨m F𝐨u𝐫 𝐊i𝐥o𝐦e𝐭r𝐞s t𝐨 𝐅o𝐫t𝐲 𝐒t𝐞p𝐬 .🌱

In the 𝐥o𝐰v𝐞l𝐝 𝐨f C𝐡i𝐦a𝐧i𝐦a𝐧i, water scarcity affects both people and livestock. Erratic rainfall and declining water tables have made access to reliable water increasingly difficult. 🐄💧

Through TSURO and its partners, Weltfriedensdienst & BMZ, four boreholes were installed across grazing areas to reduce the distance cattle travel for water and support collective herding under the H𝐋L𝐌 𝐚p𝐩r𝐨a𝐜h.

𝐁u𝐭 𝐭h𝐞 𝐢m𝐩a𝐜t h𝐚s g𝐨n𝐞 𝐛e𝐲o𝐧d l𝐢v𝐞s𝐭o𝐜k. 👩🏽‍🌾🌱

With community taps providing nearby access to water, women and girls are spending less time walking long distances to fetch water. The time saved is creating space for productive activities and new livelihood opportunities.

𝐅u𝐭u𝐫e S𝐚n𝐲a𝐦a𝐫o𝐩a, water that once meant a 4-k𝐢l𝐨m𝐞t𝐫e journey now supports a vegetable garden just 𝟒0 s𝐭e𝐩s f𝐫o𝐦 𝐡o𝐦e. She shares the garden with a neighbouring household and grows a variety of organic vegetables for her family. 🥬🥕🌿

“This project saved me from travelling 4 kilometres to the community garden, which gives me time to do other things. With a variety of vegetables now, I am eating a healthy diet.”

Future’s story shows how an investment designed to support livestock and rangeland management can also contribute to f𝐨o𝐝 𝐬e𝐜u𝐫i𝐭y, 𝐰o𝐦e𝐧’𝐬 𝐞m𝐩o𝐰e𝐫m𝐞n𝐭, l𝐢v𝐞l𝐢h𝐨o𝐝s a𝐧d G𝐞n𝐝e𝐫 𝐄q𝐮a𝐥i𝐭y a𝐧d S𝐨c𝐢a𝐥 𝐈n𝐜l𝐮s𝐢o𝐧 (G𝐄S𝐈). 💚
