Building resilience to climate impacts through Agroecology and simultaneously improving food and nutrition security.

Such is the TSURO Trust- LandsAid e.V. funded project being rolled out in Chimanimani District, Ward 9 and 20 respectively.

TSURO Trust has established Nutrition Gardens at Chitsokoti and Chisikaurayi, which are slowly turning into Agroecology Centre’s of Excellence.

The project is being implemented in the central and Low veld of Chimanimani district, which is characterized by low rainfall patterns.

Driven by the desire to make a difference, a community initiative of 24 households teamed up and cleared the area assisted by TSURO Trust through LandsAid e.V. in providing fencing materials for Chitsokoti Nutrition Garden, tools to use such as (hoes, picks, shovels, machetes and garden forks).

Within a short space of time the once barren and bare ground has now been turned into a green belt with members having started growing green leafy vegetables as they wait to receive seed starter packs and trainings in agroecology for sustainable agriculture and improved nutrition.

The 30 member households at Chisikaurayi have also received similar assistance from TSURO Trust and its funder LandsAid e.V., a tank has been established to augment water supplies. The garden was impacted by livestock under the HLLM program. Beneficiaries also planted trees as part of the gardenโ€™s Agroecology design.

Itโ€™s a new narrative that has been written by the Shinja and Gudyanga communities as they fight climate impacts using locally available resources.
