A powerful day of 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 unfolded in 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝟯, as farmers, community leaders, and agricultural experts gathered to celebrate and strengthen 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗼𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Hosted at the homestead of 𝗠𝗿. 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗿𝘀. 𝗝𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗶, the Field Day showcased practical solutions that are helping communities build 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱-𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀.

The event was graced by 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗶, 𝗝𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗸𝗼𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗼, and led by 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝟯 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗿. 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲, alongside key technical stakeholders from 𝗔𝗚𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗫 and 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, who shared invaluable knowledge and guidance to empower local farmers.

𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝

𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞

Since 1993, the Jaravani family has been implementing agroecological practices that strengthen resilience against climate change. Their farm demonstrates effective water harvesting through swales (reaching up to 90 meters) and diversified production through fruit trees such as pawpaw, guava, and musawu, creating sustainable livelihoods while restoring the land.

𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲

𝗠𝗿𝘀. 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝘇𝘂𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗻𝘆𝗲 from Zvokuitirwa Village shared practical insights on the importance of individual seed banks, promoting the conservation of local small grains such as finger millet and cowpeas, as well as establishing community tree nurseries to support long-term agricultural sustainability.

𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐢𝐬𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐀𝐆𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐗 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐬

Our AGRITEX team; 𝗠𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗷𝗲𝗲, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗮, and 𝗠𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗲 provided valuable technical guidance to enhance farmers’ productivity and sustainability:

𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲: Understanding isolation in time and isolation in space to prevent cross-pollination.

𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭:Using environmentally friendly solutions such as gum tree leaves.

𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭-𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Simple but effective techniques including the salt-in-a-bottle moisture test and the use of traditional herbs for grain preservation.

The Field Day was a clear demonstration that knowledge sharing, community leadership, and farmer innovation are key to building resilient food systems and sustainable rural development.

Together, we continue to grow stronger from the soil, to the seed, to the future.
