This is a fantastic update on the progress being made in Rusitu through the GEFSGP Zimbabwe’s initiatives!

A delegation from the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme Zimbabwe, Comprising, GEF National Coordinator Tsitsi Wutawunashe and Trainee Programme Associate Luckson Chapungu, Government Departments and TSURO Trust officials conducted a monitoring visit to appreciate project update being implemented by TSURO Trust in Rusitu cluster.

It’s inspiring to see how TSURO Trust and the local communities are working together to improve livelihoods through sustainable practices like beekeeping, fish farming, and value addition using solar driers.

The achievements of the Busy Bee group in ward 22, from constructing and colonizing Kenyan Top Bar hives to generating substantial income from honey sales, show the true potential of beekeeping as an economic driver.

Their ambition to invest in a solarized honey processor hints at even greater growth ahead. Meanwhile, the Ward 22 Project beneficiaries, Shingirirai Fish-pond groupโ€™s success in harvesting over 200 kilograms of fish demonstrates how such interventions empower women and ensure food security.

The Ward 21 project beneficiaries, Pepukai Value Addition groupโ€™s efforts in fruit and vegetable drying further underscore the benefits of renewable energy and efficient food preservation.

Beyond the numbers, it’s heartening to hear testimonies of life-changing impacts and mutual learning among stakeholders. These projects don’t just uplift individualsโ€”they strengthen entire communities. It is a model worth expanding to benefit even more families.
