Weโ€™re thrilled to announce the launch of the โ€œAgroecology for Sustainable and Just Groundwater Governanceโ€ project โ€” a bold new initiative led by TSURO Trust in partnership with Midlands State University and funded by the Institute for Health and Environment (IHE).

This three-year project officially kicked off with an engaging inception meeting that brought together stakeholders from across Chimanimani District. The gathering provided a platform to explore the projectโ€™s vision โ€” rooted in knowledge sharing, agroecological research, and youth capacity building.

With a strong foundation in participatory approaches, the initiative will support:

โ€ข Research and documentation of agroecological practices

โ€ข Demonstration sites showcasing sustainable irrigation and soil health techniques

โ€ข Youth training on agroecology and income-generating opportunities

โ€ข Cross-learning and exchange among practitioners and communities

โ€ข Advocacy for sustainable groundwater use and governance

By combining scientific research with local knowledge, the project seeks to strengthen care-full irrigation practices, promote sustainable water management, and build community resilience to climate challenges.

๐Ÿ’ถ Backed by funding of โ‚ฌ26,640, the project will foster collaboration through a community of practice, support field-based learning, and engage Midlands State University students in hands-on documentation and interaction with farmers.

Together, weโ€™re sowing the seeds of a more just, sustainable, and resilient future for Chimanimani โ€” where agroecology empowers communities and groundwater is protected for generations to come.
