TSURO Trust has targeted to construct 350 Hectares of Swales in Nemakonde Landscape a community in Bumba area ward 7 of Chimanimani district with 350 farmers already benefiting under its Nature Positive Food Systems (Nature +) funded program.

Under the project which has been funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) through the Canadian Food Grains Bank (CFGB) for three years, TSURO Trust has already made inroads in fostering nature-positive food systems for enhanced climate change adaptation in the Nemakonde Landscape.

The targeted swale length is 35000 meters and will help to recharge the water table thereby increasing crop yields in the Nemakonde Landscape.

TSURO Trust is using mechanised tractors to construct the swales and this has been a major relief that has saved labour for the farmers. Farmers expressed their appreciation to TSURO Trust, the Funders and the partners involved for bringing such a Nature Based Program.

The concept of swales is also a climate change cropping mechanism which will enable farmers to realize better yields even during below-normal rainfall.

TSURO Trust is implementing Nature Based Solutions in seven villages namely Nemakonde, Kuretu, Chitombo, Mandima, Mhizha Tagarirwa and Nezandonyi in Chimanimani District of Zimbabwe, under Chief Mutambara, in Ward 7 and overall, the intervention is expected to create avenues for communities to contribute towards sustainable development goals especially that of poverty eradication, through ensuring thriving lives and livelihoods.

This will also create a balanced ecosystem, resulting in improved pasture performance in the area, and directly contribute towards improved livestock performance.
