The 2025 Seed and Food Festival in the Nemakonde Landscape of Chimanimani District saw participation from 81 farmersโ€”up from 45 in the previous yearโ€”highlighting increased community engagement and success of the Nature+ Project.

Implemented by TSURO Trust and funded by Global Affairs Canada through the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB), in collaboration with Alongside Hope (formerly PWRDF) the initiative promotes climate-resilient agriculture using traditional, drought-tolerant seeds and conservation agriculture practices.

Favorable weather and sustainable conservation agriculture techniques adopted in the Nemakonde Landscape led to bumper harvests this year, boosting optimism among participants.

The project aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals and aims to build food security, biodiversity, and climate resilience through community-led, nature-based solutions.

Project participants expressed optimism that the Nature + project was key in fostering food security and nutrition using nature-based solutions.

Overally the objectives of the farmer led seed systems is to promote sharing of seeds among small holder farmers and promote local food production and consumption, while at the same time showcasing the traditional farming practices and seed saving techniques.

The program also fosters community engagement, brining farmers, community together sharing knowledge and experiences and above all it is an occasion to promote sustainable agriculture practices and environmentally friendly farming methods.

This work forms part of the Nature+ Project, implemented by TSURO Trust and funded by Global Affairs Canada through the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB), in collaboration with Alongside Hope (formerly PWRDF) with the aim of fostering nature-positive food systems, enhancing local capacity for climate change adaptation while promoting sustainable land use, biodiversity, and resilient livelihoods.

TSURO Trustโ€™s interventions are aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably those targeting poverty reduction, food and nutrition security, gender equity, clean water access, and climate action. Through community-led action and knowledge sharing, the project is laying the groundwork for vibrant, self-sustaining rural landscapes in Zimbabwe.
