Itโ€™s all systems go and activated, as farmers in the Nemakonde landscape have already rolled out their sleeves signaling the start of the 2025-2026 summer cropping seasons preparations.

The farmers are rolling out conservation agriculture principles, soil and water conservation, engaging in soil fertility improvement amendments such as bio fertilisers and thermal compost production and livestock crop field impaction, conservation agriculture plus demonstration plots have been established as well.

TSURO Trust officials implementing the Nature + Project in the Nemakonde landscape, accompanied by the CFGB Regional Project Manager for Zimbabwe and Mozambique Mr Solomon P. Mwacheza witnessed the Budiriro group, led by Lead Farmer Ever Makwinimizi fully embarking on land preparations.

The Peer-to-Peer Monitoring review took the delegation to the Muusha homestead to witness the traditional crop seeds varieties, which are resilient and adaptive to climate change induced challenges being promoted within the landscape to create food and nutrition security.

The delegation later met representatives of the Gender Champions thematic area in Tagarirwa Village where upon the members revealed high impact gender responsive initiatives in Nemakonde resulting in declining cases of Gender Based Violence and Early Marriages.

This work forms part of the Nature+ Project, implemented by TSURO Trust and funded by Global Affairs Canada through the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB), in collaboration with Alongside Hope (formerly PWRDF). The initiative seeks to foster nature-positive food systems, enhancing local capacity for climate change adaptation while promoting sustainable land use, biodiversity, and resilient livelihoods.

TSURO Trustโ€™s interventions are aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably those targeting poverty reduction, food and nutrition security, gender equity, clean water access, and climate action. Through community-led action and knowledge sharing, the project is laying the groundwork for vibrant, self-sustaining rural landscapes in Zimbabwe.
