Nature Based Solutions – Bee Keeping Set to Change Lives in Nemakonde Landscape.

TSURO Trust is aggressively implementing Nature-Based Based Solutions in the Nemakonde Landscape within the Bumba area (ward 7) of Chimanimani district. Empowering Rural Communities to sustainably utilize their natural resources productively, has been the major thrust of TSURO Trust since its inception.

In that regard, 50 villagers were trained in standard beekeeping under its Nature Plus Funded Project.ย The project which is funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) through the Canadian Food Grains Bank (CFGB) for three years will foster nature-positive food systems for enhanced climate change adaptation in the Bumba area.

The hub had the privilege of being visited by Richard Librock, Programme Coordinator of the Primates World Relief Development Fund and was so impressed by the zeal, passion and commitment displayed by the beneficiaries.

In the Chimanimani District of Zimbabwe, under the jurisdiction of Chief Mutambara in Ward 7, a comprehensive training program in beekeeping and hive-making was conducted for beneficiaries from seven villages: Nemakonde, Kuretu, Chitombo, Mandima, Mhizha, Tagarirwa, and Nezandonyi.

The training encompassed both theoretical and practical components

The beneficiaries are anticipating to initially construct 200 standard bee hives.

The comprehensive beekeeping training program provided beneficiaries, comprising men, women, and youth, with a thorough education in apiculture, covering the entire spectrum from fundamental beekeeping principles to advanced hive management techniques.

Through this training, participants acquired essential skills in crafting standard bee hives, establishing apiaries, and harvesting honey, equipping them with the knowledge and expertise necessary for successful beekeeping practices.

Overally, TSURO Trustโ€™s intervention is expected to create avenues for communities to contribute towards sustainable development goals especially that of poverty eradication, through ensuring thriving lives and livelihoods.
