𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐁𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠

With the generous support of Weltfriedensdienst, PELUM Zimbabwe successfully conducted a comprehensive B𝐞e𝐤e𝐞p𝐢n𝐠 (A𝐩i𝐜u𝐥t𝐮r𝐞) W𝐨r𝐤s𝐡o𝐩 facilitated by 𝗧𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗢 to equip f𝐚r𝐦e𝐫s, 𝐝e𝐯e𝐥o𝐩m𝐞n𝐭 𝐨f𝐟i𝐜e𝐫s a𝐧d e𝐱t𝐞n𝐬i𝐨n o𝐟f𝐢c𝐞r𝐬 from Fambidzanai Permaculture Centre ZWE, Farmers Association of Community Self-Help Investment Groups, 𝗠𝗦𝗙𝗟 and Scope Zim with knowledge and practical skills needed to engage in modern beekeeping as a sustainable livelihood.

The workshop offered participants a complete learning journey across the entire beekeeping value chain, covering:

Theoretical principles of beekeeping

Practical construction of modern beehives

Selection and siting of suitable apiary locations

Hive installation and management

Honey harvesting techniques

Honey processing and quality assurance

Value addition and product diversification

Marketing and commercialization of bee products

Through a blend of classroom learning and hands-on practical demonstrations, participants gained valuable technical knowledge and practical experience to confidently establish and manage successful apiaries. The workshop also strengthened the capacity of extension officers to transfer these skills and knowledge to fellow farmers and communities, contributing to the wider adoption of apiculture as a climate-smart and income-generating enterprise.

Beyond producing honey, beekeeping plays a vital role in enhancing biodiversity, supporting crop pollination, improving food security and creating sustainable income opportunities for rural households.

Through strong partnerships and collaborative learning, we continue to empower communities with practical skills that promote resilience, environmental conservation and sustainable development.
